Oasis - Oasis Sign Innovative New Record Deal With Sony

OASIS are set to release three albums in conjunction with record giant SonyBMG and their own label in a groundbreaking new deal.

The band announced they had brokered a long-term agreement with the company earlier this week (16Jun08), and will release their LPs through the music giant in partnership with their own label Big Brother Recordings - meaning the two record firms will share the profits from the album sales.

The move will give the band more freedom and artistic control compared to other artists who are signed to just one music company.

The deal also sees the Wonderwall hitmakers maintain rights over the group's back catalogue of albums.

And Oasis' management are pleased with the workings of the new contract - branding it "imaginative and exciting".

A representative says, "This allows the band to take advantage of all the opportunities presented by the new business models available today as well as remaining totally in control of their own destiny."

Ged Doherty, Sony BMG UK chairman and CEO is equally ecstatic about the signing: "Oasis are in complete control of their destiny and could have chosen to sign with anyone - or even go it alone - so I am delighted that they have chosen to continue to work with us."

The first of the three studio albums is expected to be released in September (08) - their first LP since 2005's Don't Believe The Truth.

Liv Tyler - Tyler Intimidated By Nortons Hot Bod

LIV TYLER dreaded shooting romantic scenes with her THE HULK co-star ED NORTON - because she felt the actor's lean physique put her own to shame.

The Fight Club star toned up for his role as Bruce Banner, the mild-mannered scientist who transforms into the raging green monster.

And Tyler, who plays Banner's girlfriend Betty, was so intimidated by his svelte stature, she didn't want to be filmed standing next to him.

She says, "There were points when I was like, 'Wait! We cannot do this love scene because his body looks so much more beautiful than mine!'"

The Carps fuse punk and soul

When drum and bass duo The Carps hit the stage at the Mod Club Saturday night the plan is simple.
We plan to play as hard as humanly possible, singer Jahmal Tonge tells Metro.

The musical collaboration between Tonge and partner Neil White began when they met at a Scarborough church youth group several years ago. Now the pair whose music is best described as a collision of punk and R&B is better known for serving up high-energy, sweat-soaked live shows.

I was brought up on a steady dosage of punk and progressive rock, White explains, Whereas Jahmal had more of a soul, R&B interest. We started to share these musical tastes and from there, expanded both of our musical interests and horizons.

Those horizons resulted in the release earlier this year of the bands second genre-bending EP Waves and Shambles. The disc is a swirling mash-up of hip hop, new jack swing, dance and rock.
A lot of it is heavily influenced by analog keyboard sounds, says White, noting that others songs took them, back to our grunge and duct tape punk days.

Tonge says the band is serious about respecting and emulating the influences they choose to mine. If you are an artist of integrity, you will allow the great music that has come before you and the great music of your peers to influence your style.
